Placement of EFCS

We recommend placement of EFCS between crew members and passengers so the EFCS can be accessed on the way to the incident. EFCS does not have to be stored in upright position.

Installation Procedures

The Emergency Fire Containment System (EFCS) may be mounted directly to a flat surface or the provided Storage Case may be Velcro mounted in any suitable safe location utilizing the provided 2” or 4” adhesive backed fire resistant Velcro. The EFCS may be mounted vertically or horizontally based on the needs of the individual installation. The EFCS storage case was designed to be hard mounted to the aircraft interior if desired. Hard mounting of the EFCS Storage Case requires a specific Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) Approval.

How To Use

When the first signs of a potential personal electronic device (ped) fire are detected, such as burning smell or visible smoke, move the EFCS to the incident, put on the thermal-gaurd gloves, lift open the upper flap and unzip. If possible, remove the battery and place inside the EFCS bag. If unable to safely remove the battery, place the entire device inside the EFCS bag. Zip the EFCS closed, fold down the upper flap and squeeze firmly to ensure a proper seal. Pull the arming pin to arm the suppression system and relocate the EFCS to a non-critical location in the aircraft. The suppression system will automatically deploy if the EFCS internal temperature reached or exceeds 220 degrees F, therefore cooling and extinguishing the fire. Should the temperature not reach 220 degrees F, the unharmed device may be removed upon arrival at your destination, and handed back to the owner.

Initial Suggested Maintenance Items:

  • Update passenger briefing cards to indicate the designated location of Emergency Fire Containment System within your aircraft. Install a placard in visible location adjacent to the EFCS to clearly indicate its location.
  • Although the EFCS is categorized as Carry on Loose equipment it is optional to add the weight of the EFCS and storage container to the Weight and Balance Calculations for the aircraft.
  • The EFCS may be deferred and is not a part of the required equipment list at this time. It may be deferred if required for continued flight as part of Non-Essential Furnishing (NEF) items. Create a logbook entry in the aircraft logbook referencing the installation of the Emergency Fire Containment System. Retain the original EFCS certifications, 8110-3 Burn Certification for the E.F.C.S. and 8110-3 Burn Certification (if requested) for the provided storage container with the aircraft
