The Largest of the 3 available EFCS

The Large 24” EFCS is a fire containment bag designed to safely contain and automatically suppress fires and resultant smoke originating from Personal Electronic Devices (up to a 20” laptop) carried on-board aircraft.

The Emergency Fire Containment System is a fire & smoke containment and suppression system specifically designed to safely contain small Consumer Portable Electronic Devices up to a 20 inch Laptop (depending on EFCS size).

Your purchase of the EFCS system includes:

  • EFCS Bag Assembly
  • Attached Fire Suppression System serviced with suppression agent & Charged with compressed Nitrogen

Description

Description

The EFCS effectively contains and extinguishes PED and Lithium Battery fires, as well as 98% all of the resultant smoke. The EFCS enables the ability to relocate a possible fire threat away from passengers, crew and flight sensitive areas.

This differs from all other fire containment bags, in that it utilizes an attached, self-contained, automatic suppression system. If the internal temperature rises above the predetermined temperature, the suppression system automatically deploys an aqueous agent within the EFCS, to cool & suppress the fire.

The unique advantage to this design is, if the threatened device never reaches thermal runaway, the suppression agent will not deployand the unharmed device may be safely removed and returned, after arriving at your destination.

*Tested to contain 15,000 mAh/ 160 Watt Hour Rechargeable and Non-Rechargeable Lithium batteries.

Construction

The Emergency Fire Containment System (EFCS) is manufactured is the USA utilizing all aviation grade high temperature textiles and assembled and certified by licensed aircraft technicians. All of the hardware and fittings utilized in the construction of the EFCS is 316 Surgical Stainless Steel. Handles are provided to provide the user the ability to relocate the EFCS when necessary.

Fire Suppression System

The Emergency Fire Containment System utilizes a self-contained suppression system designed to automatically deploy within the EFCS once armed. The extinguisher cylinder is a Department of Transportation certified 4B cylinder, all of the activation and arming devices including the cylinder are constructed of corrosion resistant, 316 surgical stainless steel. The delivery and sense line utilized within the bag to deliver the extinguishing agent is Underwriting Lab certified.

Suppression Agent

Coldfire is the extinguishing agent selected for the suppression system attached to the EFCS. Cold Fire is an Aqueous UL listed Wetting Agent for Class A and B fires [I]. Cold Fire was tested in accordance with UL 162, UL 711 and NFPA 18 requirements for Wetting Agents. Cold Fire is unique; however, in comparison to most wetting agents, as it has the capability to extinguish Class B [l] and D fires [2]. This environmentally friendly agent is plant and water-based and has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency under their Significant New Alternatives Policy Program (SNAP) [3] as an acceptable substitute for Halon 1211 and Halon 1301. The agent is nontoxic, noncorrosive, and offers an unprecedented cooling effect. Coldfire is protected from freezing down to -40 degrees F. In 2002 the Office of Aviation Research in Washington, D.C. provided guidance on Halon replacements for Aircraft Fire Suppression Systems which Coldfire was listed as an alternative.

Instructions
Maintenance

E.F.C.S. Instructions for Continued Airworthiness-

Initial Suggested Maintenance Items:

  • Update passenger briefing cards to indicate the designated location of Emergency Fire Containment System within your aircraft. Install a placard in visible location adjacent to the EFCS to clearly indicate its location.
  • Although the EFCS is categorized as Carry on Loose equipment it is optional to add the weight of the EFCS and storage container to the Weight and Balance Calculations for the aircraft.
  • The EFCS may be deferred and is not a part of the required equipment list at this time. It may be deferred if required for continued flight as part of Non-Essential Furnishing (NEF) items. Create a logbook entry in the aircraft logbook referencing the installation of the Emergency Fire Containment System. Retain the original EFCS certifications, 8110-3 Burn Certification for the E.F.C.S. and 8110-3 Burn Certification (if requested) for the provided storage container with the aircraft
